Why the NHS wait is so long
As of June 2025, NHS England recorded over 491,000 open ADHD referrals. Demand has increased dramatically since 2019, driven by greater public awareness and improved diagnostic criteria. NHS services have not scaled to meet this demand.
For many adults, waiting 3–5 years means years of unmanaged symptoms affecting work, relationships, and mental health. A private assessment removes that wait entirely.
You may also be eligible for an NHS-funded assessment through the Right to Choose pathway, which allows you to self-refer to a private provider without waiting on the NHS list.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really get an ADHD assessment the same week?
In many cases, yes. We maintain a small number of priority slots each week for patients who need to be seen quickly. Availability varies depending on the week and clinician schedule. Contact us directly to check current availability.
Why are private ADHD assessments so much faster than NHS?
NHS ADHD services are significantly under-resourced relative to demand. As of June 2025, there are over 491,000 open ADHD referrals in England. Private providers like ADHD Assessment UK are not subject to NHS waiting list pressures and can schedule appointments based on clinician availability.
Is a fast private ADHD assessment as thorough as an NHS one?
Yes. Our assessments follow NICE guideline NG87 and are conducted by GMC-registered clinicians. The speed of booking does not affect the clinical rigour of the assessment. You will receive the same comprehensive diagnostic interview and written report regardless of when your appointment is scheduled.
What do I need to prepare before my assessment?
Before your assessment, you will be asked to complete a pre-assessment questionnaire covering your symptoms, medical history, and daily functioning. If possible, gathering any school reports or previous medical records can be helpful but is not mandatory.
